Thursday-Sports day. -Active stations -Students-V-Teachers -Class Races -Water-fight!! Each day we will be holding qualifications for Claremont Track and field. Those who qualify will attend Claremont on June 13th.
Active School Week 2019
Tuesday
Anne O' Meara from Cricket Ireland came along and taught the children a taster session in Cricket. From this the children learned how to hold and swing the bat correctly. Anne will return to us next year for 8 weeks of lessons in Cricket.
Juniors and Seniors also took part in a game of sitting volleyball. They learned how this game can be inclusive for people with special needs.
Wednesday Paula Mitten, a 2nd class parent came along to our school for the 2nd year in a row to teach the children a great Yoga session. The children really enjoyed pushing themselves to move their bodies in different ways. We thank her for her continued support and partnership.
The Active school committee had a busy week organising fun activities during playtime.
Thursday All classes went swimming on Thursday. In the afternoon we held a whole school dance out in the yard. Children had been learning the dance during class for the past week to the song 'Old Town Road'and the whole school came out together to showcase it. It was great fun!
Active homework Children were given out Super Trooper booklets to help with active homework. We also e-mailed out the ideas below which children were also given last year. Children took turns orally reporting to their classes everyday the activities they completed for homework. Active Homework ideas: 1.Complete a circuit of activities (think 10@10 activities) E.G Star Jumps, High knees, Burpees, Jogging/sprinting on the spot, mountain climbers, skipping-Time yourself-30 seconds on, 30 off. 2. Friday Heather Clarke, a 6th class parent and Athletics coach kindly organised herself and local Athlete and coach Rory Kavanagh to come in and teach the children throwing and jumping. The sun was shining and the children enjoyed it greatly. We thank them both for their support.
We also had James in from Blackhall Gaels GFC. He began GAA with 1st-2nd and continued on Hurling with 3-6th class alongside the teachers. We thank him for his continued support. The children are continuously improving their fundamental movement skills.
